Membrane rejuvenation product

Membrane chemicalsRenomate 2000

  • Advantage
  • Products
  • Membrane rejuvenation product

    Function
it recovers the salt rejection of mildly oxidized (TFC) RO and NF membrane elements
    Reaction mechanism
Proprietary formulation Reaction mechanism is chemisorption to membrane surface
    Application
    Online or off line application
    Value
Reduces OPEX of the water treatment system as membrane replacement can be delayed.
     Example

RO system rejection 97%.  Oxidation accident resulted in RO system rejection of 95%.
It is worthwhile to test whether Renomate can restore the salt rejection.
If  RO system rejection is significant lower then partial membrane replacement is recommended.
It does not restore salt rejection due to mechanical damage (such as permeate backpressure, abrasion, and feed spacer) and/or membrane manufacturing flaws
    Application – Online method
The RO membranes need to be cleaned in order to achieve optimum results with the Renomate 2000 treatment.
The Renomate 2000 powder is dissolved in chlorine free RO permeate.
1 – 10% (wt) solution is prepared.  The % solution is dependent on the dosing pump capacity.
The temperature should not exceed 31°C.
    20 - 40 mg/l Renomate 2000 is continuously dosed for 30 – 60 minutes.
It is critical that the RO feedwater pH is < 5.0 during the Renomate 2000 treatment.   Acid addition (good quality HCl) may be needed.
Note: The low pH (pH < 5.0) condition prevents hydrolysis of  Renomate 2000
    Application – Off line method
The RO membranes are cleaned in order to achieve optimum results with the Renomate 2000.
The Renomate 2000 powder is dissolved in chlorine free RO permeate.
    0.01 % (wt/vol) Renomate 2000 with 1 % (wt/vol) citric acid is recirculated through the membranes for 1 – 2 hours at  > 100 psig (690 kPa).
The temperature should not exceed 31°C.
The pH of the Renomate 2000/citric acid solution is measured during the treatment.
It is critical that the pH remains  below pH 5.0.
Citric acid (good quality) is used for the pH correction.
After treatment, the Renomate 2000 solution is rinsed out of the RO system with  chlorine free RO permeate ( pH < 5). The RO system is put into operation.
    General comments
It may be necessary to repeat the Renomate 2000 treatment dependent on the feed water quality,  RO operation and cleanings.
Can be a cost effective alternative for membrane element replacement
Clean membranes are strongly recommended for successful Renomate 2000 treatment
The rejection improvement depends on the condition of the membrane elements.
Rejection warrantees cannot be provided.  This is standard practice for this group of chemicals (membrane rejuvenation products or re-sizing agents).
